How to transfer pictures from Mobile to Laptop

Modified on Mon, 16 Dec, 2024 at 4:35 PM

This article will be useful in situations where you cannot browse the contents of your mobile when it is directly connected to your laptop via a USB cable. This article presents 2 methods of bypassing this restriction to get your photos on mobile to your laptop

Solution #1 - OneDrive

This method requires you to be signed into your story homes account on your mobile - I would recommend this method for a work mobile as you will most likely already be signed in

Open the OneDrive app on your phone and log in if required (xx.xx@storyhomes.co.uk & your laptop password). You should be presented with a screen like so where you can see your OneDrive file folders (which will be backups from your laptop)

Click on the Plus icon at the top and then Upload

Then you'll be able to find & select the photo you wish to upload by tapping on the picture

If you wish to upload multiple photos simultaneously, you'll need to hold each photo's icon until there is a tick mark overlaid and then upload them as a batch

Once uploaded, you should be able to open your OneDrive folder on your laptop via the blue cloud icon in the bottom right. At this point you should see your newly shared photo(s) and then be able to open up the OneDrive folder on your laptop or choose to View Online

Solution #2 - Bluetooth

An alternative to uploading the photo(s) to OneDrive is to leverage Bluetooth data transfer. This is a preferred solution if you are using your personal mobile phone as you do not need to associate it with story homes' OneDrive, although due to the short range of Bluetooth you will need to be very close to the laptop

The following example is done using the Photos app on an Android device

Find the photo(s) which you'd like to share. If choosing multiple, you'll have to select each one by holding them until a tick appears in the top left corner

Once selected, use your thumb to scroll up until you get the sharing options as seen below. Select Bluetooth

The next menu will be listing the available Bluetooth devices you have saved & also in the area. Leave this screen active while you do the next step

Back on your laptop search in the bottom bar for Bluetooth and select 'Bluetooth and other devices settings'. Turn Bluetooth on if not already. Click on the option for Send or receive files via Bluetooth

The next screen will provide the option to either Send or Receive files via Bluetooth. Click receive

At this point if you go back onto your phone you should see your laptop now as an available option, for example mine is SHLA1651. You'll be able to determine your SHLA number either via the small blue tag on the bottom right of the laptop or you can search Rename in the bottom search bar and open 'Rename your PC' which will also confirm this

Click on this and it may prompt you on both the laptop & the mobile to confirm the Bluetooth connection. Go ahead and pair these up and the file transfer should begin

Once completed transferring all the photos if you click on Next it should then ask you where you'd like to save them on your laptop. Choose a location and then click save, at which point the photo(s) will now be saved onto your laptop in the specified location
