To install the Brother printer on your laptop when on site. follow the instructions below:
Ensure your laptop is connected to the same wifi as the printer. Then make a note of the model of the printer, it will typically be 'Brother MFC-J6935DW' or 'Brother MFC-J5730DW' etc.
Open a browser and search for the model number, i.e. for the J6935DW you would search for 'Brother MFC-J6935DW driver download':
It will usually be the first one in the list, ensure it is from the Brother website and then click the link. This will direct you to the Brother website where it will automatically detect your Windows version - scroll to the bottom of that screen and click the blue OK button:
On the next screen select Full Driver & Software Package:
Click 'Agree to the EULA and Download' button which will download the software:
This will start the download which you will be able to see in the top right of your web browser, and also in your Downloads folder. This may take a while to download depending on the speed of your internet connection.
Once downloaded, go to your Downloads folder and find the file you just downloaded. Right click on it and select 'Run as Administrator':
If you are prompted to enter Administrator credentials on a login screen, please contact IT on 01228 891619 as we will need to remote on to your laptop to enter these.
If you do not get the above pop-up, click Yes when it comes up with a security prompt and then the file will go through a 'decompressing' process before it begins installing:
When the Brother installer loads, click Next to begin the process:
Accept any licence agreements, T's & C's etc by ticking the relevant boxes and click Next.
Select Wireless Setup and click Next:
Ensure the printer is switched on and is currently connected to the existing wifi. After a while the printer should appear in the list, select it and click Next:
If the printer does not show in the list, the installer will prompt you to re-connect the printer to wifi, follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer.
Let the installer run, if prompted click 'Next' or 'Accept' on any pop-ups that appear.
Once installed untick any boxes that invite you to register the printer. If you get any notifications that there are firmware updates for the printer, ignore those and just close the screen down.
The installer may load a Word document for you to test the printer is working correctly - please try this to ensure it is installed.
If you have a newer printer such as the J6940DW, this downloads a separate bit of software called Brother iPrint & Scan which is used for scanning which looks like this:
After the Brother Utilities software is installed, click the Brother iPrint & Scan icon and you will be prompted to select your printer. The printer you have just installed will be shown, just click to select it.
