Photoshop Scratch Disks are full

This article covers 2 common ways to resolve errors relating to not being able to do anything on Photoshop and seeing an error like the following (specific error text can vary). This error indicates that Photoshop requires more storage space than can currently be provided by the laptop

Method #1 (non-site staff only) - Upload locally saved files to OneDrive

OneDrive has a feature called Files on Demand. By default, OneDrive will store most of your files online only but make them appear as if they are a file saved on the laptop. You can tell by the little blue cloud icon next to any files

In order to force OneDrive to upload as much as it can to the cloud and free up storage space on the laptop, you must click on the OneDrive icon on the bottom taskbar and navigate to the following

Method #2 - Clear out Photoshop's Cache

Photoshop often saves several previous versions of each file as temporary backups in case Photoshop crashes & you need a file recovered, or wish to revert back to a previous version. This can very quickly add up (especially if you're working with many large files) and fill the Scratch Disk

To clear the Photoshop Cache, open the Photoshop application & then navigate to edit --> purge

If the option is available, click All. If not, click all other available options

NOTE - Please ensure all Photoshop files are definitely saved & you are not currently editing a file

NOTE - This feature may be located in a different menu depending on Photoshop version

If you have done either of these methods you will need to restart your laptop for Photoshop to notice that there is now more space available to use

If after both of these methods you are still noticing the error please get in touch with IT
