Change keyboard layout back to UK

Modified on Thu, 20 Mar at 11:29 AM

It's an uncommon but well known bug that Windows occasionally (especially after a major update) changes the keyboard layout back to US, which is the default layout. This guide will show you a simple method of reverting this back to UK layout and ensuring this does not happen again

You'll be able to confirm that the keyboard has changed to a US layout via the following in the bottom right of your laptop (ENG US)

You will need to open up Settings and then go to Time & Language --> Language & region.

You'll most likely notice that the US layout is not present and that everything is set to United Kingdom

In order to prevent the US keyboard layout from coming back, you must first install the US keyboard layout. Click Add a language and search for English (United States)

Click Next

This will take up to 15 minutes to install fully but then you will see an extra entry here

Click the 3 dots on English (United States) and then Remove. This should uninstall the US layout permanently and then you will notice that the ENG US in the first screenshot is no longer there
